Can You Wear Gloves in Hyrox? Rules and What to Choose

Gloves are one of the most common first-race questions. The short answer: most athletes may wear gloves, but whether they help depends on the station and on the glove. Always check the current Hyrox rulebook for your season and division, as rules can change.

Where gloves help

The sled pull is the station where gloves make the biggest difference: you pull a rope hand over hand, and bare hands can get hot spots or rope burn. The farmers carry and the sled push are the next most common reasons people wear them.

  • Sled pull β€” rope grip and friction
  • Farmers carry β€” sweaty hands on the handles
  • Sled push β€” grip on the poles, especially later in the race

Where gloves get in the way

Wall balls and burpee broad jumps are easier without bulky gloves. Thick padding reduces feel on the ball and gets slippery with sweat. That is why most racers who use gloves choose a thin, close-fitting pair β€” or take them off before the later stations.

How to choose Hyrox gloves

Look for thin palms, a snug fit and a grippy surface. Avoid heavy lifting gloves with wrist wraps: they're slow to take off and add bulk. If you're between sizes, go tighter β€” loose fabric bunches up on the rope. Our Hyrox gloves guide compares options with a best overall and a budget pick.

Try them in training

Do at least one full simulation or long station session in the gloves you plan to race in. You'll find out quickly whether they help your grip or just make your hands hot.
